Zapadnoye
Zapadnoye deposit was discovered in 1987. It’s located in Kropotkinsk area of Bodaibo region some 20 kilometers from Kropotkin settlement.
Zapadnoye lies only 2 kilometers west from Sukhoi Log, potentially Russia’s largest gold deposit, and is part of the same geological structure, the Sukhoi Log pericline part of Sukhoi Log anticline. The deposit consists of 11 shallow dipping lenticular ore bodies extending for some 1,500 m. Gold is associated with silicone veins and vein-impregnated silicone and pyrite mineralization. Gold occurs mostly in free form, less often it is bound to silicone quartz or sulfides.
Total resources and reserves (C1 + C2) of the field amount 12 tons of gold; inferred resources – 84 tons of gold. Currently further exploration is under way as well as measures are taken to increase mine’s capacity.
