Alluvials
Polyus placer deposits are located in the Irkutsk region some 1100 km north-east from Irkutsk and 200 km from the city of Bodaibo. In 2004 prospecting and exploration works were carried on 36 of 94 licensed sites.
Total alluivials' reserves and resources amount to 101 tons of gold.
Alluvials are associated with loose sedimentary deposits of various origins. Most often gold is found in alluvial deposits consisting of boulders and pebbles in modern river valleys and on ancient Quaternary terraces elevated above the flood plane. In river valleys placers often exceed 10 km in length, while on terraces they are no longer then 2-3 km. Placers can be shallow and deep lying, the latter often run 10 to 60 m deep and are covered by thick deluvial and glacial deposits (peat). Content of gold in placers varies from one site to another. Placers’ yield high-grade gold in form of average large sized particles and nuggets.
