CJSC Polyus

Polyus-Krasnoyarsk business unit (ZAO "Polyus") represents the groups’ leading production site and currently is the largest gold mining project in Russia.

The core activity of Krasnoyarsk business unit is development of Olympiada deposit. The ore is processed at Olympiada processing plant, which is the first in Russia to use its in-house bio-oxidation technology. The Olimpiada mine facilities account for as much as 75% of the Groups’ gold output.

Besides mining and processing divisions, Krasnoyarsk business unit also includes a geological exploration unit. The unit conducts exploration works to estimate reserves of Blagodatnoye, Titimukhta, Olenii and Kvartsevaya Gora deposits, as well as Panimba ore cluster, Zyryanovskaya and Razdolinskaya fields.

In 2004 a Research center with 6 laboratories was set up in Krasnoyarsk to provide R&D support for all Polyus operations.

In July 2007, a factory for processing gold bearing sulfides was put into use and is considered to be the largest in Russia.  The third stage of the factory was put into use on Olympiada processing plant, located on Olympiada deposits in the North-Yenisey region of Krasnoyarskiy Kray.

The annual capacity of the third stage of the factory is approximated at 5 mln tons of ore; this will increase the total capacity of sulfide ores processed at Olympiada processing plant to 8 mln tons.  The total processing capacity of Olympiada plant will be brought to 9.5 mln tons of ore per year.  The factory uses the new, company-developed, bio-oxidation technology, greatly increasing the amount of gold being extracted from the sulfide ores.  The bio-oxidation technology was adapted for use in the conditions of the extreme North and has been successfully used at Olympiada plant since 2001.
